Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon seasoned salt such as Lawry's
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon minced Italian herb blend such as (You can also substitute
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil vegetable oil, or canola oil (if cooking on your stovetop)
  • 4 flat iron steaks about 6 oz each

How to Grill a Flat Iron Steak

  • Heat your gas grill to medium-high heat.
  • Place the seasoned steaks on the hot grill and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side for medium-rare steaks (130-135 degrees F on your meat thermometer).
  • Remove from the grill and allow the steak to rest on a cutting board for about 5 minutes before cutting into it.

How to Cook a Flatiron Steak On Your Stovetop

  • Heat the oil in a cast iron skillet over high heat.
  • Place steak in the hot skillet and, for medium-rare, cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 130–135°F.
  • Remove from the hot pan and allow the steak to rest on the cutting board for 5 minutes before slicing.

How to Broil Your Flat Iron Steak

  • Set your broiler to high heat.
  • Place the steak on a broiler pan.
  • Broil the meat for 3–4 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 130–135 degrees Fahrenheit for medium-rare (or your desired level of doneness).
  • Remove from the pan and allow the steak to rest on the cutting board for 5 minutes before slicing.
