Tzatziki (pronounced “tuh-zee-kee”) is essentially a Greek sauce made from yogurt, cucumbers, and garlic. Often, lemon juice and herbs are added to give it extra flavor.  This version features basil, but you can feel free to swap out the basil for mint, dill, thyme, or any other fresh herbs you have on hand.

Here are a few tips to help make sure that your Tzatziki Dip turns out fabulously:

  • Make sure that you squeeze as much juice from your cucumbers as possible; otherwise, the dip could turn out watery.  After I’ve peeled and diced the cucumbers, I simply wrap them in a couple of layers of paper towels and gently squeeze until they mostly stop releasing liquids.  Depending on how juicy your cucumbers are, you may need to repeat this a couple of times.
  • Make this easy dip at least a couple of hours before you plan on serving it.  Giving the seasonings time to seep into the Greek yogurt makes this healthy dip even more flavorful.

Made with Greek yogurt and flavored with natural herbs and spices, this dip is a healthy alternative to heavier appetizer dips.  In order to keep this a healthier snack option, serve the dip with:

  • Baby carrots
  • Cucumber slices
  • Trimmed green onions
  • Grape or cherry tomatoes
  • Slices of peppers
  • Sliced radishes
  • Pita or naan bread
